Beautiful country accommodation in Wales just ½ a mile from Rhayader town centre. The building has taken on a number of uses over its 150+ years from a workhouse to a school for the blind, a car parts factory and self contained accommodation.With so many alterations and such a history it is hardly surprising that no two rooms are the same!

If you are looking for country accommodation or bed and breakfast accommodation in Wales with atmosphere, character, restfulness and joy then look no further than Brynafon Hotel in Wales. There is so much to see and do in the area and is far from the madding crowds.

There is no doubt that a short break to the Elan Valley area will harvest no end of wonderful experiences through the great food, friendly people, abundant wildlife and spectacular scenery.

Brynafon Hotel’s bed and breakfast accommodation is made up of eighteen unusual en suite bedrooms across 3 floors. Each individually styled and sometimes quirky bedroom has en-suite bath or shower-room, tea & coffee making facilities, free view TV and Wi-Fi access throughout. You can book a specific room to suit you or take pot luck.

All short breaks & accommodation are sold on a bed and breakfast basis unless otherwise stated. There is the option of Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Please state your preference when booking. Brynafon runs a number of accommodation deals throughout the year and you can sign up to receive a monthly newsletter which will list any special offers or you can view our special offers or tariffs online.

We have found that our vouchers are very popular and you can purchase short break accommodation or Welsh Tapas vouchers for your loved ones through the hotel, WH Smith’s, Opodo, Marks & Spencers or Smart Box directly.

Below is a description of our Accommodation.

Rowan 1 (Traditional Honeymoon Suite)

A graceful and romantic room with views of Gastwedyn Hill to the rear and the Cambrian Mountains to the front. The four poster bed is a beautiful period feature that adds to the romanticism. The deluxe bathroom with corner bath, hand held shower and bidet mean that you really feel as though you are away from home. The second floor room can be used together with Rowan 2 as a family suite (advised for children over 5 only).

The Studio (Modern take on the Honeymoon Suite)

A fabulous room with quirks aplenty! Unusual accommodation gets its meaning from the Studio!

A converted attic room built around solid beams and with a wooden floor this is a room for not for the feint hearted! A deluxe integrated bathroom, with a roll top bath beneath a sky light so that you can gaze at the heavens from your bubble bath.The sublime and the ridiculous hand in hand! 

Gables 3 (Family Room)

Second floor newly refurbished family room, double bed and incorporated kid’s room with bunk beds for under 12’s. Views of Gastwedyn Hill to the rear and the Cambrian Mountains to the front. The double bed can be split if preferred. The new bathroom has bath and shower facilities.

The Hafod (Family room & Short Break accommodation)

A Comfortable andspacious duplex accommodation with its own entrance, perfect for those longer stays. The living area and the bedrooms have been newly decorated. One double room (which can be separated) & one twin room (with room for a further put-up bed if required), a lounge, and kitchenette (with fridge & sink). En-suite shower room. The bathroom is due to be updated and we are hoping to have it completed by Spring 2011. This is a dog friendly room. We also have a self catering pack option for those staying a little longer.

The Den (Family Room & Short Break accommodation)

A popular first floor double room with it’s own entrance overlooking the courtyard. The room has a sofa bed and table, perfect accommodation for a small family or business professional. There is a fridge and sink and we offer the self catering pack if required. Standard shower room and toilet. This is a dog friendly room.

The Mews

Ground floor twin located just off the courtyard. The en suite bathroom has a bath with a handheld shower. This is a Dog friendly room. This is an ‘easy access’ room (ramp access available) and those who have mobility difficulties can be accommodated here. The ‘disability friendly’ aspect to this room is relative to situation - if in any doubt please do call us. We are happy to help.

The Rookery

Comfortable second floor bedroom with four poster bed and dark wood furniture. Great views of the Cambrian Mountains. Deluxe bathroom with corner bath and hand held shower.

The Belfry, Gables 1 & 2.

 These are similar rooms in that they are each on the second floor, have en suite shower rooms and overlook the Cambrian Mountains. The Belfry has been recently refurbished and has a wonderfully opulent feel. Gables 2 is fresh & bright, has a king-size bed and modern bathroom. Gables 1 is a bright and cosy double room but not advisable for the larger among us.

Willows 2, Claerwen 1

Again, similar accommodation with shower rooms, overlooking the Cambrian Mountains

a very comfortable double room. 

Tycerrig 1 & 2, Claerwen 2, Rowan 2,

These make up our twin accommodation complement on the first floor. Claerwen 2 has an en suite shower room while the others boast baths and handheld showers. All with great views and the possibility of pushing the beds together if needed! Rowan 2 can be booked along with Rowan 1 to make a family suite with its own entrance.

The Clink & Willows 1

The Cheap Accommodation! The Clink is a split level twin room located in the former spike at the back of the property. It is cheap because of where it is situated not due to quality and is actually the favoured room of more than a few regulars! It has a large en suite shower room. This is another dog friendly room and has an added bonus of having its own patch of grass outside – in the summer months this can be a real sun trap! Willows 1 is a first floor single room with a bathroom en suite. Bright and cosy this room suits the business professional or lone rambler to a tee.<
